Former-Councillor Fencesitter explains the budget

Former-Councillor Fencesitter has mounted a one-man campaign to defend his beloved BeFuddleds against criticism from Smalltown and Dullbridge residents who have reacted angrily to the news of the highest hike in history to the Smalltown and Dullbridge (SaD) Town Council Tax.

Today, Former-Councillor Fencesitter has joined SomersetClive to address our readers concerns.

Can’t wait to see the 23% extra worth of services we get.

Ah, yes. This is a common mistake. Residents seem to be under the impression that if they pay more they will get more. This is the Town Council increase, not the overall increase in your Council Tax. Currently you don’t get anything from the Town Council, so that isn’t going to change. The only thing that is going to change is you’ll be paying more for it.

It’s a joke !!! They are cutting costs and probably not having lifeguards in summer – roads all potholes and half street lights don’t work… where does the money actually go ??

Before commenting on things they clearly don’t understand residents should read the 940 page report that went to the All-New-Yet-Unimproved Somerset Cuonty Council Executive before Christmas. Then perhaps they would forget what their question was and stop complaining.

Why keep the Fail-Off Road Palace Retirement Home for Bemused and Bewildered BeFuddled Party ex-Teachers (and Others)? It could be sold off and moved into the White Elephant Enclosure or the Library.

I think you mean Hayloft Road. There is no Fail-Off Road in Smalltown or Dullbridge, you stupid person. There is no room in the library or the vast emptiness of the WEE to accommodate the Town Council offices. The possibility of moving into the old school and selling Hayloft Road is still under discussion and negotiation with the All-New-Yet-Unimproved Somerset Cuonty Council and, if it goes ahead, you can look forward to an even higher Council Tax rise next year, because it requires a full rebuild to bring it back into use.

I’d be interested to learn the results from the survey they put out regarding this and how the answers were taken into consideration when making a decision. Was there any point in asking us what our views were?

The result was reported to the Town Council and can be found in the relevant agenda. I’m not going to bother telling you what the results were. A Councillor did look at them, but the results were ignored because the response was poor.

The response was poor because it was rushed and offered very little time to respond. A complaint was then submitted about having an online option, followed by another on how impractical the survey was (print and send in). The Survey didn’t allow an option to close the White Elephant Enclosure either which would have saved taxpayers a fortune and would have meant a Zero Council Tax increase.
SaDTC is not fit for purpose and a sham.

I’m going to ignore this, because it’s really not very nice at all. I love the WEE and SaDTC.

Does the running costs of the White Elephant Enclosure come from that money?

They most certainly do. £1 in every £5 goes towards the WEE. That’s what I call value for money.

164% increase in Fridgpond.

And 187% in Craptown Pallet. There. Don’t you all feel much better now?

Yyayyy more money for them to have cream teas at our expense. What would they do without us.

I was a Town Councillor for 11 years, during which time I achieved absolutely nothing. I also never had a cream tea at your expense. Sadly, I was no longer a Town Councillor during the King’s Coronation and so wasn’t invited to partake of a free cream tea at the WEE, along with Dictator Dullard and Deputy Dictator Sherry and paid for from Council Tax funds.

Absolutely disgusting. Yet again it’s the workers and the poor who have to suffer.

The poor pay no Council tax. Pensioners are covered by a Government scheme and those of working age by a Somerset scheme. The money for their Council Tax comes from a magic money tree, so it doesn’t cost anything.

Maybe if the Somerset council leader wasn’t paid over £200k a year they would have a bit more spare money

You people are so ignorant. You don’t know a thing about it. The Council leader is not paid £200k. The Chief Executive is. The leader is paid something around £30k, plus expenses and pension contributions, which is what is paid to a newly qualified teacher. Which is great news for ex-Teachers who become Councillors.

Right. I’ve had enough now. It’s nothing but moaning and whinging and people saying we should either close the WEE or get someone in to run it for SaDTC. It’s ridiculous. All people need to know is that SaD Town Councillors have no idea what they are doing and that’s good enough for me.
