Media Mogul under Fire

Smalltown and Dullbridge media tycoon, Mark Maxman has come under fire this week following his news report about the Dullbridge Light Switch On.

Mr Maxman’s report, under the headline ‘Very small handful of residents attend Dullbridge turn on’, implied that only a few people turned up to enjoy the festivities on Dullbridge.

However, a spokesperson for Our Dullbridge refuted this claim saying “We had a steady stream of families joining us throughout the day, with over 40 people joining our Lantern Parade.

We estimate that well over 100 people came along to take part in the day, and even the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Eugenie Sherry said she’d never seen so many people in Dullbridge at any one time. If that’s a handful then someone must have huge hands.

If this event had been in Smalltown then you can guarantee the headline would have read ‘Crowds flock to…

It’s unfair to represent Dullbridge like this, we all try very hard to improve the lives of our residents and now it feels as if even our local media outlets want to kick Dullbridge.”

Lady Brassy of Easton-under-Water commented on behalf of her Smalltown Shops (SS) group “Thank goodness for that. What a relief. I was worried that we might get a similar headline for our own Christmas Lights Switch On in Smalltown.

I’m really glad your Lantern Parade went well, when I had the original idea to hold a Lantern Parade last year this was exactly this sort of thing that I had in mind, when I came up with the idea all on my own, without any help from anyone. That’s how clever and very, very, very, very important I am.

It’s really good to see Dullbridge build on the success of the Lantern Making Workshops held in the town both this year and last year, using funds secured by the Our Dullbridge group from somewhere that wasn’t Smalltown and Dullbridge Town Council. Without those workshops and the efforts of Our Dullbridge to bring a Lantern Parade to life there wouldn’t actually be any lanterns taking part.

It’s also good to see them manage to host an event on a shoestring, although our Smalltown Shops event will be much bigger and much better because we have more SaDTC money to throw at it.”

Commenting on Lady Brassy’s comments an Our Dullbridge representative said “When it comes to the question of who had the idea for a Lantern Parade I can only say ‘Recollections may vary’ .”
