Monday’s Smalltown and Dullbridge Town Council meeting saw councillors agree to carry out work to Hayloft Road Palace, after a letter was received from a neighbouring property concerning the state of a window and door which overlook an adjoining property.
The door and window have suffered from the Council’s usual level of care and maintenance, with the window desperately in need of attention.
Councillors agreed to clerk, Tanya Summer, that she obtain quotes from builders to carry out the remedial works and further agreed to a proposal to brick up the door.
Summer told the meeting “This isn’t a door which sees much use, so it makes sense to brick it up. In fact, we should look at bricking up all the doors in Hayloft Palace – that way we can keep out those pesky members of the public who keep coming here with questions about council matters. Something which interrupts the office staff’s work and interferes with the way the council operates.”
Summer said that the work is estimated to cost around £3,594, although it is expected that it will cost three times that amount once finished.
