Angered by the thought of missing out on donations from locals and holidaymakers alike the Really Needy Lifesaviing Association (RNLA) commissioned a report to be undertaken by themselves to look into ways to make more money from our local coastline.
Almost immediately the RNLA identified the need for £94,000 of spending at Bream beach, with lifeguards to be employed for health and safety reasons, as well as new signage.
Bream Parish Council, who had responsibility for the beach, felt that this level of spending was beyond their reach and appealed to Sadgebore District Council for help.
Sadgebore spokesperson, Claire Bored explained “We were delighted to take over this area to add to our portfolio of beaches. We already have responsibility for Smalltown and Barrow beaches, but Bream beach offers yet another source of funding. We will immediately increase parking charges and will be refurbishing the toilet block to introduce a ‘Pay2Pee’ facility.
We will work with the RNLA to provide funding for several lifeguards and equipment, although the RNLA will be introducing their own donation box.”
Rear Admiral Horatio Turnbull of the RNLA said “We are delighted with this news. With the presence of our own lifeguards on the beach we hope to blow Smalltown Area Ship and Hovercraft out of the water and take their share of maritime donations.”
