Padraig Irishh, owner of Smalltown’s Blitz Cinema, has confirmed that he would “love to take over the White Elephant Enclosure and turn it into the thriving facility it should be, if it were run on a professional basis by someone who knows what they are doing.”
“It has been over ten years since I first submitted a bid to Sadgebore District Council with details of my proposal to take on the White Elephant Enclosure and turn it into a successful venue.” Mr Irishh told SomersetClive. “As history shows, Squire Teflon nicked all my ideas and put them into his own bid, persuading his friends at Sadgebore that he was the man for the job.
Well, he may have been able to talk the talk, but after over ten years of ever increasing losses, it’s fair to say he can’t walk the walk.
I have the experience required to run a White Elephant Enclosure. The Blitz Cinema is recognised as the leading destination in Smalltown for entertainment and I am confident that I can bring my skills to the WEE and make it a success.
We already have a contract to screen live performances of the top West End Shows as well as the latest cinematic releases and I would like to see some of these screened at the WEE, rather than the 60 year old films currently on offer at the venue.”
Headmistress and Town Mayor Kelsey Dullard said “What a lovely idea. I can see that Mr Irishh has done his homework and this is something that Smalltown and Dullbridge Town Council could definitely discuss in the staff room at some point. Mr Irishh could well be the real saviour of the WEE.”
With residents of Smalltown and Dullbridge expected to be told that their council tax payments will need to increase from April to cover the losses incurred by the WEE there was delight all round at the news that a leading local businessman was willing to take on the facility.
