The Smalltown Culture and Arts Manager (SCAM) Debby Karmary has taken full credit for starting a group to bring a Pride event to Smalltown and Dullbridge, even though the group was already fully formed.
Speaking to the press Ms Karmary said “We were really proud to host the first official meeting at the White Elephant Enclosure to create a Pride group in Smalltown. A number of people came forward, including the Pride – a Really Unique Diversity Event (PRUDE) group, and they were really keen to take on running the event.
This meeting was a genuine first for Smalltown and Dullbridge as it brought together people with a shared passion and a desire to take things forward. A bit like a Town Council meeting should be but this time with a genuine desire to actually do something worthwhile and not just talk about it.
PRUDE had a lot of great ideas and a ready formed Committee, so they didn’t really need us to help them set up, but I’m going to pretend that I actually organised the whole thing. Even though all the committee positions in the PRUDE group were filled Squire Teflon insisted that he be allowed to join, because organising a Pride event is something he’s always wanted to do.”
CEO, Founder and the one-person committee of Smalltown Pride – a Unique New Concept (SPUNC) Levi Smeller said” “I’m disappointed that my original plan for SPUNC didn’t come off. I tried, but I just couldn’t get it to a head. However, I’m pleased to say that I’m still working hard in the community.”
PRUDE hope to host a Pride in Smalltown in 2023 and will now start looking at ways to raise funds.
