SomersetClive reporter, Steven Gull, has confirmed that filming has begun on a new Channel 94 comedy based on his book ‘Love in a Smalltown’.
Speaking exclusively to SomersetClive, Steve said “I’ve had to keep this a secret for some time but with film crews and Hollywood stars spotted around Smalltown and Bream, leading to speculation amongst residents, I’ve been given permission to reveal the exciting news.
My best-selling novel, ‘Love in a Smalltown’ is being turned into a brand new 69 part comedy-drama! Eagle-eyed locals may have spotted Robbie Coaltrain, who is playing Squire Teflon, and Fawn Drench, taking on the role of Mistress Bones, hamming it up for the cameras in and around the area.
It’s all very exciting and I’ve been drafted in to assist with the script. Over the coming weeks the crew will be recreating the World Record Beating Olympic Sized Swimming Pool and Ice Rink in the car park and the producers are looking for six local residents to play the part of the crowd queuing to get in.”
We caught up with leading lady, Fawn Drench, during a break in filming and she told us “I was completely bowled over by the writing – Steve is a very talented young man, who definitely deserves a pay rise. The dark humour, the love story and thriller element set against a backdrop of a rundown sea-side town that has suffered years of neglect and one woman’s quest to turn that around by wasting vast sums of tax payer’s money on a ridiculous idea is pure genius and almost unbelievable. It’s comedy gold and the story deserves a wider audience.”
Channel 94 have confirmed that they hope to start broadcasting the series in November, with a ‘Christmas Ice-rink Special’ in December boosting the viewing figures to at least 12.
