You could be forgiven for thinking that this weekend is yet another black hole in the schedule at the White Elephant Enclosure, since the website shows the next event as being on 1st March.
However, there actually IS something on. The WEE has been hired out for Saturday night to show a film – The Dog Man. The story of a man who has lost both his way and his dog, who seeks guidance from a higher power to find both.
Whilst it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, the event has not been mentioned on either the website, or promoted by the Smalltown Culture and Arts Media Promotions Individual (SCAMPI), May Tricks, during her usual 30 minutes work per week scheduling posts on AceCrook.
The reason for this is unclear – could it be because admission is free? Or is it because the subject matter could be seen as contentious in some quarters? Perhaps a film of this nature is considered ‘brainwashing’. Or maybe the Smalltown Culture and Arts Manager (SCAM) Susie Cookbook is embarrassed by the levels to which the WEE has to stoop to try to make money.
Whatever the reason it would appear that promoting a psychic aiming to put grieving relatives in touch with their dearly departed is fine, but mentioning the D-word in an overly religious film is not.
Meanwhile, at the South West’s Premier Music Venue, singing Landlord Tom Portman will be trying to tempt punters in to buy beer by taking to his own stage to belt out a few numbers. You have been warned.
