What’s on

Last week saw a successful run of the Smalltown Pantomime Society’s performance of Brother Moose. Thanks to strong local support from family and friends, the SPS and the White Elephant Enclosure were able to bask in the glory of knowing that over 700 people attended over the course of six performances. The remaining circa 19,000 residents of Smalltown and Dullbridge were able to sleep soundly knowing that, thanks to their money subsidising the WEE on a grand scale, those 700 people had a lovely night out.

But it’s back to normal for the WEE this week with the return of the first of the unsuccessful Comedy Nights on Friday . So far only 48 out of the 60 available tickets have sold. You have to feel sorry for the comedians who would probably attract a bigger audience if they were to perform in a local pub.

The weekly round up from the Smalltown Culture and Arts Manager (SCAM), which is published on the WEE website in an attempt to show how busy and successful the WEE is, hasn’t been updated since the 8th of December, leaving residents wondering if the SCAM has already run out of ideas to make the WEE look successful. Not to worry – the new massive budget has been approved by Smalltown and Dullbridge (SaD) Councillors, so we can all look forward to another year of the main event at the WEE – watching our money going down the drain yet again.

The South West’s Premier Music Venue, the Jetty Pub, faces strong competition from The George Hotel on Saturday night, with the former bringing a rock cover band to the stage, whilst the latter will pay host to popular local rock cover band, Six Big Guns. Both events are free to attend and are guaranteed to have a bigger audience than the WEE.

As ever, local entertainment entrepreneur, Padraig Irishh, will be showing all the latest Hollywood blockbusters at the Blitz Cinema. There’s a man who always knows what the public want and, with tickets priced at only £4, he knows how to deliver at absolutely no cost to the tax payer.
