Padraig Irishh, theatre impressario and owner of Smalltown’s Blitz Cinema has reported a World Record breaking weekend with wall-to-wall full audiences for two of the latest cinema blockbuster releases.
“It’s been totally mad!” Mr Irishh said, “My staff haven’t been able to move from the box office due to the demand for tickets. It’s been our busiest weekend ever and looks to be shaping up the same way for this weekend too.
I could have filled two Blitz Cinemas at the same time, or a Blitz and a White Elephant Enclosure, it’s been that busy.”
Smalltown residents and holiday visitors have been queuing around the block to try to secure tickets to Garbie and Hoppenhighmer and some people have reportedly been returning to watch the same film time and time again.
The two films are polar opposites, with Garbie telling the fluffy story of a fashion doll who explodes into the real world and strugges to decide which bombshell outfit to wear to the latest film premiere, whilst Hoppenhighmer tells the gritty story of a bomb maker who struggles to decide which fashionable outfit to wear to the latest explosion.
Padraig added “We are keeping our tickets at £4 each because it helps to make cinema visits affordable to families, especially over the summer holidays. Where else can you see the latest film for £4? Certainly not at the WEE, where they want £5 to see a film so old that it’s in black and white.
Our success really shows what can be achieved at an entertainment venue if you know what you are doing.”
