Sadgebore District Council this week gave the green light to plans by Smalltown’s Dross Bar to extend their opening hours, despite objections from local residents and Smalltown and Dullbridge (SaD) Town Council.
As is customary for Sadgebore the points put forward by SaD TC were totally ignored, with the matter being decided by Councillors who don’t live in the town.
Cllr Harrie Raven, who chaired the meeting said “We were aware that several objections to this application had been received, however we felt it was correct to disregard them as we found it disappointing that none of the objectors saw fit to attend and support their objection.”
Several of the objectors contacted SomersetClive to tell us that they were unaware of the date and time of the meeting as the information is buried so deeply on Sadgebore District Council’s website that even Sadgebore District Councillors struggle to find it.
Whilst several of the objectors did receive an acknowledgement from Sadgebore that there objections had been received, no one at Sadgebore bothered to follow that up with any information about the date of the meeting.
Owner and operator of the Dross Bar said “We are delighted with this outcome. Following the demise of the M8s Dive Bar earlier this year following a police raid, which saw the tenant evicted, and with the owner of M8s now seeking permission for a change of use to become a shop, there has been nowhere for late night drinkers to go. We hope to be able to fill that void, by offering hardened drinkers an extra 30 minutes over other establishments closing time to consume as much alcohol as possible.
We are also pleased to announce that following on from our highly successful Drum n Bass Hip Hop Garage Rave Take Over, which we held last year, we now plan to hold a similar event, but this time it will run 24/7 for 365 days. We are confident that this won’t affect local residents in any way.”
