The Somerset branch of the National Association of Fields (NAF) has announced the winners of the 2022 Field of the Year awards and a field in the Smalltown area received recognition.
Farmer Ollie MacDonald’s field on the outskirts of Dullbridge, alongside the main road to Fridgpond, has achieved first prize in the category of ‘Last Remaining Unspoilt Field for 94 miles’, receiving a special mention from the judges for the field’s attempt to fight off the encroaching housing estates in the area.
Former Smalltown and Dullbridge Town Councillor Phil Football had all his entries disqualified after it emerged that, whilst some of his fields are indeed currently fields, they all have approved planning permission to see industrial units built on them.
There were no local entries for the category of ‘Large Field’ because there aren’t any large fields left in either Smalltown or Dullbridge.
