Monday’s Smalltown and Dullbridge (SaD) Town Council meeting at the Hayloft Road Palace Retirement Home for Bemused and Bewildered BeFuddled Party Ex-Teachers (and Others) saw Councillors agree to a proposal put forward by BeFuddled Party member Cllr Eugenie Sherry that occasional Town Council meetings be held in Dullbridge.
“Residents in Dullbridge feel that they are forgotten by this council, so holding our meetings in the town will at least make them think that we know the place exists.” she said.
Illiberal member Squire Teflon agreed with the idea, but added “If you’d been a Councillor for as long as I have, or knew anything about previous council history, you’d know that this is something that we tried to do about 25 years ago. Similarly, if you understood the geography of Smalltown and Dullbridge you’d know that Hayloft Road Palace sits slap-bang in the middle of the area this council represents. Draw a line from Barrow Polygon to Brewery Farm and you’ll find Hayloft is the mid point.”
Robert Not-Bothered, Initforhimself Party, added “Yes, we tried that previously, when I was either an Illiberal or BeFuddled Party member. Unfortunately, although it’s a great idea, we’ve never been able to find a suitable venue. It needs to be somewhere that offers the same microphone and speaker system as we have here – the Council spent a lot of money installing the system here and without access to the hearing loop half of us wouldn’t be able to hear most of what goes on.
I’ve spoken to my wife, Janet who, I would remind you, is still a Very Important Sadgebore District Council Councillor, and she has agreed that, if this Council can’t find a viable alternative, we are prepared to hold future meetings in our front room. It’s not a large room, but this means everyone will have to sit closer together so we should be able to hear each other.
You will need to bring your own chairs though because we don’t have enough to go round.”
Town Mayor, Kelsey Dullard, thanked Cllr NotBothered for his lovely offer and Councillors unanimously voted to investigate the costs involved in using Cllrs. Robert and Janet NotBothered’s front room for future meetings.
