Shop owners in Dullbridge have held a meeting in the town to format their response to Sadgebore District Council’s Re-Imagine Dullbridge (RID) proposal.
The traders have registered their upset at the plans to remove all parking from outside their premises, as well as reduce the number of parking spaces in the nearby car park.
“It’s all very well making the area look green and leafy, but we rely on passing trade to attract customers. Shoppers like the convenience of being able to park outside, run in and grab what they want. They aren’t going to want to pay to park across the road.” said one trader.
“It’s almost as if they want people to use Asdals so that we are all forced out and they can convert our shops into housing.” said another.
Traders now have Smalltown’s Most Popular Person and Sadgebore District Councillor, Jock McCads, firmly in their sights. “He’s going around with a smug look on his face telling anyone who will listen that this is a great idea and is exactly what Dullbridge needs.
It’s a good job he doesn’t live in Dullbridge and rarely visits because there’s quite a few here who would like to tell him to get rid of RID. Around here he’s Public Enemy Number One.”
A spokesperson for Sadgebore told SomersetClive “The RID bid does include a proposal to get rid of the parking spaces outside the shops in order to plant more trees. It’s important that we do so, because the plans also include a proposal to get rid of the well-establushed trees near the train station to put in more car parking.”
