Smalltown Shops (SS) has launched a fund raising tombola in aid of the Smalltown Underfunded Community Hub (SUCH). The SUCH needs urgent repairs owing to storm damage.
Customers of SS members (an oxymoron, we know) are invited to pay to enter the tombola to win a giant Easter Bunny. Proceeds raised will go to the SUCH appeal.
As much as the SS are to be congratulated for wishing to assist the SUCH, it is part of a worrying trend. From last year’s Smalltown & Dullbridge (SaD) Town Council grant for the never to be forgotten but definitely could be bettered ‘Universe’s BEST Ever Christmas Lights Switch On To End All Switch Ons Extravaganza With School And Tubular Bells On’ to the expected further grant application for their recreation of Alice in Wonderland’s ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ during the celebrations for the forthcoming Queen Victoria III Titanium Jubilee, the SS is proving adept at hoovering up tax-payers money. It might not yet have the vacuuming capacity of the trunk of an elephant of the albino variety, but the SS is firmly in the trough.
After all, if the SS want to contribute to the SUCH, why not write a cheque. From their own money?
