SomersetClive reporter disqualified

The shortlist for the Smalltown and Dullbridge story and poetry writing competition has been announced and our intrepid reporter, Steve Gull, didn’t make the cut.

The contest is bring held as part of the Smalltown and Dullbridge Book Festival, which is taking place in for the first time in April.

We asked Steve why his entry ‘Love in a Smalltown’ doesn’t feature on the list and he told us ‘I entered the competition in good faith with an extract from my forthcoming book about Squire Teflon and his conquests. Unfortunately I hadn’t read the rules properly. The stories submitted were supposed to be works of fiction and, of course, mine is a factual account of the Squire’s rather complicated and convoluted love life.”

“The organisers told me that, whilst my manuscript is a fascinating documentation of one man’s attempt to sleep with every woman he encounters, it didn’t show any imagination because it is based on fact. I’m quite hurt by their comments.”

To make Steve feel a little bit better we’ve agreed to publish some extracts from his masterpiece and will be serialising his book over the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
