Smalltown and Dullbridge Town Council this week discussed recently submitted plans to convert a premises in Main Street into a pizza restaurant.
Cllr. Barking, previous owner of Smalltown Pier, which is famous for being the World’s longest pier, commented “I think we should insist that the new owners keep the historic frontage.”
Cllr. Barking has long been known as an advocate for maintaining the historic look of properties, having added a giant Anderson Shelter to the front of the pier, which is in the Smalltown Conservation Area. She commented at the time “It’s a little known fact that, during the war, the pier was used as an Air Raid Shelter. Although you can no longer see the original pier structure I have re-imagined what it looked like at the time and I think you’ll find that this is an accurate representation.”
All her colleagues and friends on both SaDTC and Sadgebore District Council waved the plans through.
Cllrs. Mrs Fencesitter and Cllr. Slurry observed that the application included plans to turn the top floor of the building into a flat. “Oh pity the poor potential occupants. How will they cope with all the noise from the restaurant? We simply must insist on sound-proofing.”
Everyone agreed that they’d finally found something to talk about in a council meeting and congratulated themselves on a job well done.
When asked for a comment, local retail and parking expert, Dani Morris said “This will be the 94th pizza takeaway in Smalltown and will add a bit of variety to the 94 estate agents, 94 barbershops and hairdressers and 94 charity shops in the town.”
