Somerset’s Community Recycling and Processing (CRAP) have asked residents to help cut down on the amount of rubbish needing to be collected over the festive period by not throwing anything away.
“Christmas is always our busiest time of year, as people throw away more food waste, cardboard and paper. In order to make it easier for our crews we would be grateful if the residents of Smalltown and Dullbridge would stop putting stuff in their bins and recycling boxes. This would enable our crews to complete their rounds in a timely manner and will also mean that residents won’t have to complain that their collections have been missed.“
CRAP has suggested several ways to cut down on the waste generated by households “We’d prefer it if residents either didn’t purchase anything ever again, or become hoarders. You’d be amazed how unobtrusive piles of flattened cardboard boxes can be in your house. You can easily accommodate a year’s worth of Amazon packaging by folding the boxes flat and piling them up in a corner of your living room.
Alternatively we’d suggest that, instead of placing items in bins and boxes, residents of Smalltown dig a hole in their gardens and create a rockery by burying their plastic.
Residents of Dullbridge should simply open a window and throw their rubbish into the street.”
The CRAP spokesperson continued “We will soon be switching over to our three-weekly general household rubbish collection scheme, so this is the perfect time to help residents get used to the idea of having mountains of rubbish hanging around the house.”
Throw cardboard away? With gas any electricity prices through the roof? It pokes out a lot if heat if you burn it.
