What’s on

In an incredibly rare turn of events it’s another busy weekend at the White Elephant Enclosure as yet more family and friends have eagerly snapped up tickets to see their little darlings, members of a dance and musical theatre group, tread the boards.

These events are great for the WEE in terms of the remit to ‘get bums on seats’, but unfortunately even sell-out shows of this nature don’t translate into real income and it does beg the question why there is a need to employ the Smalltown Culture and Arts Manager (SCAM), the Smalltown Culture and Arts Media and Promotions Individual (SCAMPI) and the White Elephant Enclosure Person in Eternal Employment (WEEPEE) when the only real staffing requirement for these local community group hires is for someone to unlock the doors.

It’s heavy metal night on Friday at the South West’s Premier Music Venue, Ye Olde Jetty Inn, and Saturday sees a David Towie tribute act on the main stage, and a chance for the 12 people who purchased tickets for a similar tribute show cancelled at the WEE last September to join a much bigger audience. Tickets for the Towie Experience at the Jetty are a very reasonable £5.

Meanwhile, it’s ‘May the Fourth Be With You’ at the Blitz Cinema, as owner and theatre impresario, Padraig Irishh takes advantage of the date to screen Star Tours. Dressing up as your favourite character is advised. Other films to delight all ages are also being shown, whilst on Sunday a live screening of the cultural classic MacDeath is scheduled.
