A Large Dullbridge Crowd gathered outside the Dullbridge Community Centre to see the Christmas Light turned on.
The event began with a craft fair inside the Community Centre, which has been decorated by the Dullbridge Slimming Group who had erected a Christmas Tree inside the centre and decorated it with Candy Canes and Chocolate baubles. Some of these were still hanging on the tree.
Other activities included a Festive Lantern Parade, Shelf Trail, appearances by Santa and The Grinch, followed by carol singing with Chapel Meadow School choir conducted by His Right Reverendness, Stuart Little, the Singing Vicar of St. Lennon’s Church.
The light switch on was performed by Dictator Kelsey Dullard Mayor who said “My Smalltown and Dullbridge (SaD) Town Council paid for the light and the World’s Most Expensive Christmas Tree, so it’s only right that I muscle in and switch the light on.
I have also politicised the event by bringing along the BeFuddled Party’s Prospective Missing Person, Clara Scullery, so that Dullbridge residents know who I expect them to vote for in the next General Election in the Smalltown and Dullbridge, Fridgpond Unitary Constituency (SaDFUC).
It was good to see so many families come along to see me and I had a lovely cup of SanTea too.”
Some residents asked why the light in Dullbridge was so dull compared to last year’s Smalltown Christmas Lights but Former Councillor Fencesitter explained “It’s because the SaD Town Council budgets are split roughly between the number of residents who live in the two towns, with figures based on population figures from the 1950s and which don’t take into account the number of properties built in recent years.
Smalltown always gets two thirds of the available money, with Dullbridge getting the remaining third, or no money whatsoever depending if any Town Councillors remember that Dullbridge exists.”
That certainly rings true when it comes to the Christmas Light Switch On Event, with Smalltown Chamber of Trade awarded £3,994 from Town Council funds to organise the Smalltown Lights Switch On Event, with Dullbridge receiving nothing.
Instead, the Dullbridge day was organised independently by Our Dullbridge, together with local business owners to bring a day of festive cheer to residents, with a funding contribution from Ffart – the Fund For Art.
