Hundreds of people who had declared themselves unhappy with Cllr Jock McCads, after his appearance before the All-New-Yet-Unimproved Somerset Cuonty Council Standards Board on charges of lewd behaviour and leering, headed to Chateau Gardens where they declared themselves happy to attend his Celebratory Coronation Celebration Tea Party.
Residents, who only a few days earlier had been calling for Cllr McCads to resign/be strung-up/sent to jail without passing go, were seen singing and dancing to the music at the first Mad Hatter’s Tea Party of the year, which had been renamed the Chateau Gardens Celebratory Coronation Celebration Party in order to get extra grant funding from Smalltown and Dullbridge (SaD) Town Council.
A spokesperson for the event said “Despite an initial fear that residents would boycott the event, we actually saw record numbers attend, which just goes to show that whilst people may have strong opinions about Cllr McCads recent behaviour if you offer them a free afternoon of music they will forgive any transgressions.”
The afternoon saw a strong line up of performances, with artists covering a variety of musical tracks including ‘Don’t Stand So Close To Me’, ‘Itsy Witsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini’, ‘Where Do You Go To My Lovely?’, ‘Blurred Lines’, and ‘Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word’.
