Three events due to be held in Smalltown and Dullbridge as part of the King Henry IX Celebratory Coronation Celebrations have been awarded a total of £1150 of the £1500 available grant funding on offer from Smalltown and Dullbridge (SaD) Town Council.
Only three applications were received and it is believed that many organisations, groups and individuals were put off by SaDTC s insistence that applications include a 3000 word essay detailing the educational value and health and wellbeing benefits of any projects, rather than the money being spent on having a jolly good knees up.
The first of the confirmed grants awarded has been given to Our Dullbridge who will receive £500 to hold a ‘Bring Your Own Butties and Bird Boxes’ party in Dullbridge and will be using some of the money to purchase bunting in an attempt to brighten up the streets of Dullbridge.
The remainder of the funding will be spent on materials, with students at Queen Ethelred’s School being encouraged to make bird boxes in their woodworking classes.
It is hoped that the bird boxes can then be attached to trees in Dullbridge to attempt to attract back some of the wildlife which has been displaced by the building of huge swathes of housing. However, the bird box attachment will need to be cleared with the relevant authorities before any installation.
SomersetClive will be bringing you details of the other successful applications over the next few days. In this way we can drag the news out and publish three stories when one would do.
