Death of Dullbridge visitor announced

It is with great sadness that SomersetClive recently heard the news that someone who once came to Dullbridge has passed away.

Queen Victoria II came to the town on the train in 1958, at a time when the railway line continued to Smalltown, however she didn’t bother with the onward journey.

Instead she was lucky enough to find a waiting taxi at Dullbridge Train Station and made the short trip to visit Radio Dullbridge FM, where she shook hands with several people, waved a lot and told everyone she was delighted to be there.

Things have changed a lot in the intervening years. The station at Dullbridge has been demolished, as has the Radio Dullbridge complex, you can’t even get a bus in Dullbridge let alone a taxi, and you’d be hard pressed to find anyone in the town who is delighted to be there.

SomersetClive would like to extend our condolences to members of her family and, in common with all other local media outlets, will now be paying tribute to her long reign by filling our pages with stories about all the other occasions The Queen came to Somerset.
