Mystery surrounds the inclusion of Dullbridge in the annual SmallTown in Flower Festival (STIFF) this year.
With businesses and residents of Smalltown being encouraged to enter the annual competition to pick the most flowery floral displays in the area, organisers admitted that they were stumped by the inclusion of an entry from Dullbridge.
Chairman of STIFF, Dave Ferret, told SomersetClive “The committee couldn’t beleaf when we saw this entry. In over 94 years of organising the competition this is the first ever entry from Dullbridge. It absolutely made our daisy.
We are hoping to achieve a gold petal in the national Britain in Flower Festival (BIFF) and all STIFF entries will be combined for the BIFF judges who will visit in the fuchsia to assess our displays.”
The entrant included photographs of their stunning display, which consists mainly of a large quantity of greenery. However Mr Ferret is unsure if it will qualify for judging.
“We ask that all displays be visible from the roads, and this photo appears to depict indoor house plants. The growing method looks interesting though. We haven’t as yet identified the plants being grown – it looks to be some sort of fern – but it seems that this early in the season they need a lot of heat and light to get off to a good start. Hopefully the grower will be transplanting them out into the open air at some point so that we can all enjoy them.”
