The judging panel for Keep the UK Tidy (KUT) has announced that Smalltown’s Nelson Bay Gardens and Pinnacle Park in Dullbridge have once again been awarded coveted Green Bag status. Green Bags are awarded to public open spaces which show they are well managed on a regular basis.
The two popular green spaces have been recognised for being ‘well-managed, high quality green spaces’ by judges from the national award scheme.
It was a good job that a sudden and rare flurry of bin bag activity undertaken by grounds people from Smalltown and Dullbridge (SaD) Town Council and the All-New-Yet-Unimproved Somerset Cuonty Council was observed in both areas prior to the judges arrival.
The judges said “We enjoyed our visit to Smalltown and Dullbridge. Special credit should go to the person who dreamt up the idea of the ‘Magical Mystery Tour’. An inspiring idea to put blindfolds over our eyes which we were only allowed to remove once we were actually stood in the centre of both green spaces.”
Kristal Parkins, Director of Climate and Sustainability (Ed – are you making these job titles up?) at the All-New-Yet-Unimproved Somerset Cuonty Council, said “Cynics amongst you may think that blindfolding the judges as they travelled around Smalltown and Dullbridge was a way to stop them seeing the overflowing rubbish bins on Smalltown Seafront or any part of Dullbridge other than Pinnacle Park. And you’d be right.”
Samantha Dowdy, Service Director Regulatory and Operational Management (Ed – No, stop making up these ridiculous job titles.) at the All-New-Yet-Unimproved Somerset Cuonty Council, said: “ANYUSCC is proud to take the credit for these Green Bag Awards from KUT. Even though most of the tidying up, litter picking and beach cleans are undertaken by volunteers and nothing to fmdo with us. I mean, we haven’t even bothered to cut the grass recently and our staff have found it too much of a faff to empty the rubbish bins.
We’ve even managed to successfully ignore the request from Smalltown and Dullbridge Town Council to provide gull-proof bins in the area. So there’s no doubt that ANYUSCC deserve the bags.”
The Green Bag award, now in its ninety-fourth decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained, and has excellent visitor facilities. (Ed – Hahahaha. Stop it, you’re killing me with these jokes. Smalltown? Dullbridge? Hahahaha.)
