Somerset Police have confirmed that something happened in Smalltown on Friday.
Police were called at just before 1.30pm on Friday when eyewitnesses reported that something was happening in Smalltown. Officers attended the scene, including some big burly ones with real guns, to try to ascertain what was happening.
The Police helicopter was also deployed to help carry out a thorough search of the area. (as captured in the photograph taken by an eyewitness who was on the scene of the thing that happened).
Police are now appealing to members of the public who may have CCTV or dashcam recordings of the thing that happened to come forward.
Inspector Detective Constable Sergeant Agatha Poirot told SomersetClive “Our investigation into this thing that happened is ongoing and as part of our enquiries we are seeking information about a man who was seen in the area.
He is believed to have walked from the Church Street area towards Main Street and was in possession of a carrier bag. A very short while later, he was seen towards the Promenade and in the general direction of Parsonage Street.
We are now seeking eyewitnesses who believe they may have seen the man or who know what the thing that happened was.”
Dozens of Smalltown residents gathered on the Seafront to watch as the thing that happened unfolded, with many speculating wildly about what happened. Luckily a SomersetClive reporter was also at the scene, having left The Willow Arms only minutes before. This prompt response to the cries of “Helicopter! HELICOPTER! Something must be happening” meant that we were the first media outlet to confirm the story. We alerted our readers as early as 3.32pm to the news that something was happening in Smalltown, with other local news websites only managing to get the story online a couple of hours later.
