Smalltown Classic Boat Show returns

After the success of the inaugural Smalltown Classic Boat Show and Race, which was held last year as part of Queen Victoria II’s Jumbley Celebrations, Smalltown Chamber of Trade will be holding the event again this Saturday.

Dozens of vintage and classic boats are scheduled to go on show along Smalltown Main Street and George Street, with the roads being flooded at around lunchtime to allow entrants to take part in the Smalltown Classic Boat Race.

Organised by Smalltown Chamber of Trade (SCOT), and absolutely nothing to do with either Squire Teflon’s close friend and employer, Mistress Bones and Lady Brassy of Easton-under-Water’s Smalltown Shops (SS) group, this genuinely unique free event will feature fantastic classic boats moored up in Main Street and George At 1pm 94,000,000 gallons of water will be pumped into Main Street and the boat race will commence. Shops along the route will be issued with sandbags to prevent ingress by water and shoppers.

A spokesperson for SCOT said “Last year’s event was the most successful of all the Jumbley events held in either Smalltown or Dullbridge and is probably the second most popular event in the town after the Cheese Festival.

We are confident that it will even draw more people to the town centre than the proposed public flogging of Councillor McCads, for which a date is still to be announced.

We have a great line up of boats taking part and even a ship or two. Come along, enjoy looking at the display and then wave off the competitors at the start of the race. Water wings are advisable. This event promises to be incredible – think ‘Monaco Grand Prix’ combined with the ‘America’s Cup’ and you’ll get an idea of what is in store.”

Along with locally-owned vintage boats and ships, there will also be lilos, dinghys, and some really special boats“, the SCOT spokesperson added. “There will also be an opportunity to see the famous original dinghy that featured in the classic film Smallows and Bruezians. We will also hopefully have the famous ship from the film Titanic, although the one on display will be a scale replica known as Smallanic

Roads will be closed from 7am to allow safe arrival and viewing of the vehicles and over-zealous Carnivoo Marshals will be on hand to deny access to anyone not in possession of a rubber ring. A 94 mile diversion route will be in operation during this time.

Shops will be open as normal, but from 1pm onwards residents will need scuba diving equipment to access them.
