Sadgebore District Council has announced that the recent failure to secure Government funding for the Re-Imagine Dullbridge bid (RIDBid) has led to the cancellation of the proposed improvements to Dullbridge Train Station.
The Slow Speed 2 (SS2) project has been in the pipeline for some time, but a lack of funding has seen several delays to the new service.
Designed to improve the efficiency of travel between Fridgpond and Dullbridge the latest stage of the plans would have seen Dullbridge Train Station become ‘Dullbridge Transport Hub’ and would have seen Dullbridge linked not just to Fridgpond but the entire world via the Duncan McGoat International Airport which would have been scheduled to open in 2066.
A spokesperson for Sadgbore said “This failure to secure funding means that we have had to put SS2 on the back burner for now, as we need to seek funding from other sources for the necessary improvements.
Unfortunately this means that trains due to stop at Dullbridge Train Station will now stop 200 metres from the platform and passengers will have to get off at the side of the track and walk the remaining distance to the platform before continuing their onward journey.
On behalf of ourselves, Network Fail and Getting Weary Railways (GWR) we would like to apologise for any inconvenience passengers may experience.”
Sadgebore District Councillor Fencesitter said “The SS2 scheme is a very important part of the plan to Re-Invent Dullbridge as it forms the basis of the framework of the Neighbourhood Flan, what I wrote.
If you look amongst the 3394 pages of the Neighbourhood Flan, what I wrote, you will find a page devoted to the framework of the suggested improvements to Dullbridge Train Station, first and foremost of which would be the renaming of the station as a Transport Hub. This will be an important step in the regeneration of the town as it would establish the basis of the framework for the Neighbourhood Flan.
Hopefully my BeFuddled Party colleagues at the All-New-Yet-Unimproved Somerset Cuonty Council will continue to take the framework and the Neighbourhood Flan, what I wrote, forward and we can all look forward to seeing some progress one day, never.”
