Fresh from organising a highly successful and popular Hallowe’en event, the community group behind Our Dullbridge are now turning their attention to Christmas in Dullbridge.
Although plans are yet to be finalised for the Christmas Light Switch on event on 19th November, the group has announced that a Christmas Craft Fayre will take place from 2pm in the Dullbridge Community Hall in Dullbridge Town Centre, and the Christmas Light will be turned on at 4pm.
A spokesperson for Our Dullbridge said “Lots of people are working behind the scenes to bring some Christmas Cheer to Dullbridge. God knows we need it.
We are building on our previous successful events, all of which have been achieved without support or funding from Smalltown and Dullbridge (SaD) Town Council, mainly because the Councillors seem unaware of the existence of Dullbridge.
Even Councillor Jock McCads, Chairman of the Dullbridge Chamber of Trade, seems to have forgotten us, now that he’s a big mover and shaker in Smalltown.
We are hoping that SaDTC will at least supply us with a Christmas tree, but we are not holding our breath. They’ve given all their Christmas budget money to support businesses in Smalltown with their own Christmas Light Switch On event.
We’ve given up appealing to the SaD councillors for support, we are used to being overlooked and neglected so our event will be organised by the community for the community and, rather than throwing money at it to pay for amusements and entertainers, we have adopted a more organic approach and are making it about the people of Dullbridge and not the shops. We feel this reflects the true spirit of Christmas rather than the heavily commercialised approach adopted by Smalltown traders. “
Further details of the event are expected to be released over the next week.
