At the White Elephant Enclosure
Children with rich parents can learn all about the magic of musical theatre by taking part in a three day workshop designed to stretch their vocal chords and get their toes tapping, but only if Mummy and Daddy can afford the hefty £75 price tag.
For the not-so-well off a screening of a very old Barry Hotter film will be shown at 10.30am in the morning on Friday 28th, with a free sausage included in the ticket price. This is another offering from the Smalltown Culture and Arts Manager (SCAM), Debby Karmary’s wizard ‘Films for Poor People’ scheme, which allows participants the chance to pay what they can afford with a minimum charge of £2 per person.
For adults there will be a screening of an even older film later on in the month, with ticket holders encouraged to dress up as their favourite character and sing along to The Sound of the Horror Music Show.
Once again sausages will be on offer – possibly in the guise of Squire Teflon once again dressing up as a giant frankfurter, a role he relishes.
Surely it is about time that Smalltown and Dullbridge Town Council take a long hard look at the accounts for the White Elephant Enclosure and admit that it was an interesting experiment, but it’s never going to be a successful venture and it may be time to stop throwing more money at it.
