SomersetClive Editor, Clive Saint, has been visiting the pubs of Smalltown so that you don’t have to. Unless you want to.
The Blitz Social Club
A veritable pleasure palace on a par with Kubla Khan’s Xanadu. Here, the clientele recline on chaise longues while the team of scantily clad waiters and waitresses feed them grapes and fulfil their every desire.
Serves Ambrosia, Nectar and Wilkins. So we are told. We aren’t members so we can’t go in. Rumours that it’s just some beer and big rooms with lino and fluorescent strip lights are wide of the mark, we are assured.
Members are treated to a diverse programme of Vegas-style entertainment with the weekly quiz night a highlight of the schedule. Music features prominently, with Open Mic nights and performances from local musicians. Tribute bands are booked on a monthly basis, and tickets are available at less than half the cost of a similar performance at the White Elephant Enclosure.
Home of the Blitz Beer and Music Festival and the Blitz Cider and Music Festival which are popular with members, their guests and SomersetClive staff (provided the latter have been given vouchers to exchange for free beer).
