Four Smalltown and Dullbridge Town Councillors found themselves in detention after they arrived late at the Annual Town Meeting held at the Hayloft Road Retirement Home for Bemused and Bewildered BeFuddled Party Ex-Teachers (and Others).
Headmistress and Town Mayor, Kelsey Dullard, told the errant four “This sort of behaviour simply isn’t acceptable and won’t be tolerated. This is our first full town council meeting and you four couldn’t even arrive on time. You will stay here after class and write out ‘I must not be late for Council Meetings‘ one hundred times.”
Councillor Rob Apprentice-Candlestick-Maker tried to defend himself by raising his hand in the air and saying “Please, Miss. It wasn’t my fault. My dog ate my agenda.”
Fixing him with a steely eye, Councilor Dullard replied “You and the other three missed the start of this meeting, where I gave a welcome speech, thanked everyone for coming and took the register. I have marked you all down as absent, so I’m now going to have to get the correction fluid out. This is not a good start to the new term and I hope to see a vast improvement in your behaviour over the coming months.”
Having admonished the latecomers, Cllr Dullard them continued the meeting, during which several of the new intake were observed taking in the grandiose surroundings of Hayloft Road and wondering what on earth they were doing there.
