A new residents-only parking scheme has been rolled out in parts of Smalltown, after the town’s residents asked for help to find a parking space outside their homes. The new scheme allows people in two roads which are popular places for free parking to purchase a permit at a cost of £94.00 a year. Permits are limited to one per household and still don’t guarantee a space.
A spokesperson for Somerset Cuonty Council Department of Imaginary Parking Places (DIPPY) said “When we were first approached by residents complaining about every Tom, Dick and Harry parking on the road outside their homes, we immediately realised what a money-spinner a parking permit scheme could be. It doesn’t need to stop with just these two roads. We hope to roll out this scheme across all the roads in Smalltown, so that eventually everyone will be made to pay to park.”
A resident of Bore Road, to the north of Smalltown said “A residents only parking scheme can’t come to our area fast enough. Despite having a huge driveway which will accommodate 94 cars, we have to park our cars in the road to prevent anyone else parking there.”
SomersetClive understands that this scheme won’t be extended to Dullbridge because very few residents own a car.
