Smalltown Area Ship, Hovercraft and Helicopter (SMASHH) were called out to assist the Coastguard this afternoon.
A SMASHH spokesperson told SomersetClive “Our mate Kev Coastguard phoned to alert us to reports of a walker on the beach. We immediately headed to our HQ ready to deploy to the incident. In cases like this it’s important for us to respond as quickly as possible, because we need to get to the scene before those newbie incomers the RNLI.
On this occasion the need to assemble our kit in a timely fashion was so intense that we didn’t even have time to check our biscuit supplies.
When we arrived on scene we discovered that the casualty had walked off the beach under their own steam. We managed to track them down and gave them some beach safety advice.“
They replied to say “Are you stalking me? I was only walking on the sand and know perfectly well how to avoid the mud”.
“Satisfied with a job well done we returned to base to hose down our equipment and have a jolly nice cup of tea with biscuits.”
Our wonderful services – aren’t we lucky to have not 1, not 2 but 3? Those charities working so hard to have the very best of equipment/kettle that is better than the other teams. How many other stretches of coastline can boast they are so well protected by people in reflective overalls and with such passion for rich tea biscuits?
