Somerset Police have announced a new strategy to tackle crime in Smalltown and Dullbridge, after concerns were registered by residents.
Highlighted to officers have been the incidences of alcohol consumption in Jumbly Gardens, Dullbridge and groups of youths congregating on a bench outside one of the pizza establishments in Smalltown’s Main Street.
A spokestruncheon said “We will be closely monitoring both of these areas, driving past in a cosy police vehicle at least twice a week. We will give hard stares from the vehicle at anyone we suspect of carrying out anti-social behaviour. In Smalltown anyone caught gawping through the window at customers attempting to eat pizza will immediately find themselves the subject of finger-pointing and tutting. We may even wind the window down and tell them to move on to a different bench. In this way we hope to cut down on the number of calls to Crimestoppers.
This is an example of our new proactive policing policy in action and we are hopeful that it will prove enough of a deterrent and that we won’t have to see officers stopping their car and getting out to deal with possible offenders. This also has the added benefit of cutting down on paperwork.”
