Thousands of residents of Smalltown headed to Mansion House Park last night to sing Christmas Carols and other festive songs.
The event was organised by the Smalltown Community Church, who meet for worship in Dullbridge. When SomersetClive asked why they held the event in Smalltown rather than Dullbridge a spokesperson said “Dullbridge? It’s a bit of an ungodly place really. Full of heathens. They’d be more entertained by throwing us to the lions.”
Smalltown Mayor, Mark Facelift, and ex-Mayor, Cllr Pennyfarthing, were observed singing with gusto and they put in a fine performance of ‘Let Him Go’, which the crowd mightily enjoyed.
By kind permission we have reproduced the lyrics here so that residents can sing it again at home.
“Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the Squire isn’t so delightful
And since we’ve no place to go
Let him blow, where’s the dough, let him go!
He doesn’t show signs of stopping;
Amid champagne corks popping;
Election night is when he will go!
Let him blow, where’s the dough, give him woe!
When we finally say goodnight;
How we’ll celebrate until the dawn;
And we won’t be holding tight
On his way out all forlorn
The Squire is slowly dying
And the mire is like a pig sty
We will never love him so
Let him blow, let him go, give him woe!”
