During a lively meeting of the Smalltown and Dullbridge Town Council’s Planning and Scheming Committee on Monday, councillors raised a number of objections to the plan to site a laundry kiosk in the grounds of Hayloft Road Palace.
Cllr. Parkanywhere commented on the plans “I know we can’t object on the grounds of competition, but do we really need this service to be open to the public? This facility was supposed to be used to launder Town Council money, obtained by grants from, for example, the Chernobyl Slush Fund, money which will be spent on keeping The White Elephant Enclosure open. If we are not careful every Tom, Dick and Eastern European car-wash operator will be wanting to use it.”
Cllr. Mrs Fencesitter replied “I couldn’t agree more – you are right.”
Cllr. Dick Trolley commented “We don’t currently have a laundry service in the town, so this application is welcomed, but allowing car-wash operators to use it could lead to further problems. Will they apply to open a car wash next to the kiosk?”
Cllr. Mrs Fencesitter replied “I couldn’t agree more – you are right.”
Cllr. PennyFathing responded “The application is for a laundry service. We can’t object on the grounds that it may lead to further development in the area. We don’t have a laundry service in the town, and we need to set one up before the car wash operators do.”
Cllr. Mrs Fencesitter replied “I couldn’t agree more – you are right.”
Cllr. Tony Hammock was concerned about the safety aspects of the plan “This is really not a suitable site for a car wash. May I suggest we move that to Apple Tree Arena? I could offer a patch of land at a very reasonable rate.”
Cllr. Mrs Fencesitter replied “I couldn’t agree more – you are right.”
Despite all the objections councillors unanimously agreed to record that they had ‘no objections’ to the proposals.
As the final decision rests with Sadgebore District Council it didn’t really matter anyway.
