Residents have reacted with dismay to the news that the Triad Cul-de-sac Christmas Chaos won’t be going ahead this year.
A spokesperson for the Chaos said “Once again we can’t be bothered to organise this non-event event properly. The council want us to provide a risk assessment, health and safety statement, have insurance in place and organise marshals to control parking and traffic and we really don’t want to do that, so instead we are putting the usual decorations on our properties but asking that people don’t come to see them, if at all possible.”
He continued “We’ve raised thousands for charity over the years, so are encouraging people who don’t come to our non-event event this year to make a donation to their favourite charity.”
“It’s definitely nothing to do with us if people come along, block the roads, triple park and abandon their vehicles all over the place. We’ve done nothing to encourage them.”
Several residents contacted SomersetClive with their views on the matter:
“Smalltown just won’t be the same without the annual battle to travel from one side of town to the other.”
“Where am I going to give my kids first-hand experience of the dangers of parked cars and traffic now?”
“Typical council ruining it for everyone. Why can’t they just turn a blind eye to this non-event event? So what if an accident happens.”
You can not see the lights from 1st December when they are not officially switched on.
