Play Pen plans progress

There was delight all round as Sadgebore District Council confirmed that work on the long-delayed new Children’s Play Pen will commence next year.

It had been hoped that the Play Pen would have been completed before the summer holiday this year, but following a legal challenge from the residents of Pyrenees Manor, it was put on hold to allow further negotiations.

A delighted Mr Nimby told SomersetClive “We, the elderly residents of Pyrenees Manor, are delighted to see that Sadgebore District Council have finally seen sense and will be relocating the Play Pen from the proposed area of wasteland opposite our homes to an area of wasteland which is a good ten feet away.
The last thing any of us wanted to see was small children laughing, smiling and having fun.
With any luck this delay may mean that a few of us will pop our clogs before the work starts and the building work won’t have a negative impact on our lives.”

During the meeting a spokesperson for Sadgebore said
We are delighted that the cost of relocating the Play Pen from the original proposed site to this new area has incurred a cost of only £94,000. This averages out at a mere £2000 per resident of Pyrenees Court and we consider that to be Best Value. Obviously this money won’t cost residents of Smalltown and Dullbridge a penny because the additional funding will come from Council Tax.”

The extra funding means that the total cost to build the Play Pen is now estimated to be £940,000, although most of the money will come from the Chernobyl Slush Fund.

Speaking at the meeting SaD Councillor Bodge said ‘I am delighted to hear that plans for the Play Pen are progressing and it is reassuring to know that Sadgebore District Council are just as capable of wasting money as we are. This should also come as great news to lovers of concrete, as will now have two large areas of the substance for visitors to admire.”
