A Winter War heats up

As the Festive anticipation builds we’ve been speaking to the organisers to find out what’s in store for residents of Smalltown during the day of festive fun which leads to the Christmas Light Switch On.

The event is being organised in perfect harmony, yet separately, by the Smalltown Chamber of Trade (SCOT) and the Smalltown Shops (SS) group.

A Spokesperson for the Smalltown Chamber of Trade said “In the George Street area we will have a stage, featuring music and entertainment throughout the day.”

Lady Brassy of Easton-under-Water, said “Yeah? Well we have hundreds of street entertainers who will be taking entertainment to the people.”

The SCOT spokesman continued “An area of George Street will contain fairground rides, amusements and similar attractions.”

Lady Brassy added “Fairground rides? How old fashioned. We’ve got stalls lining Main Street, offering a wide variety of goods to purchase as well as entertainment from local groups and clubs, including the Soft Lads Boxing School who will be putting on a festive fighting display.”

The SCOT spokesman said “Our part of the event will build up to the actual Christmas Light Switch On which will take place near the actual Christmas Tree outside the George Hotel. The Switch On will be performed by a person nominated by residents of Smalltown and Dullbridge…”

and chosen by ME.” Lady Brassy interjected. “Anyway after the little Switch On thing we would encourage everyone to join in with our massive Lantern Parade from George Street to Jetty Street, where huge crowds will gather near Squire Teflon and Mistress Bones’ alternative Christmas Tree to sing more carols. Residents and visitors will need to go that way anyway, because that’s where the car parks are.”

The day starts at 10.00am, although Smalltown Retail Expert, Carnival Guru and Meteorological Genius Dani Morris has warned that current weather data shows that the day may be marred by a hurricane, typhoon, tornado, monsoon, flooding and eight-foot snow drifts.
