The main route through Smalltown has been closed after a huge sink hole opened up and engulfed several vehicles.
A police spokesperson said “We were called to the area at 14.50hrs, following reports of cars disappearing into oblivion. It soon became obvious that parts of the road had collapsed. We believe this is the result of tunnelling works below which were carried out in the early 1880s as part of Lord Admiral, His Royal Highness, Former Mayor of Smalltown and Dullbridge, Nelson Jones, MBE, OBE and Knight of the Living Dead, ill-fated scheme to build an underground tram system linking Smalltown with Bream.
The resulting hole is huge and we would advise residents in the area to stay well away from whilst we look into it.

The usual 94 mile diversion route is in operation.
